“Former President Mandela is still in a critical condition in hospital, but shows sustained improvement,” spokesman Mac Maharaj said.

He said President Jacob Zuma had visited Mandela at the Medi-Clinic Heart Hospital earlier on Monday, and assured him of the “love and support of all South Africans”."

"You can see he is there in his eyes, the same energy and strength," she said, and hopes he will be released "soon"."
